Shearer's Honored with Pillar Award for Community Service

Shearer’s Foods is pleased to receive the 2007 Pillar Award for Community Service. The Pillar Award was developed by Smart Business magazine and Medical Mutual to honor responsible corporate citizens that understand the importance of giving back to the communities that support it. The Pillar Award recognizes companies, rather than individuals, in the nine-county region of Northeast Ohio.

Additionally, Shearer’s Caring and Sharing Committee was presented with the 2007 S.H.A.R.E. Award. This award is given to the company whose employees best exemplify the values of Medical Mutual’s own employee volunteer S.H.A.R.E. Committee. Devoting its time and raising thousands of dollars in support of worthy organizations in Northeast Ohio, the S.H.A.R.E. Committee coordinates over 25 events annually involving half of Medical Mutual’s 2700 employees.

Shearer’s Caring and Sharing Committee was organized in 2003 to identify fellow associates and people in the community with special needs and to provide support while involving all Shearer’s associates. Associates company-wide, from manufacturing to management, are invited to join the Committee. Fund raisers are held throughout the year, and the money is used to help fellow associates with unexpected heating bills, groceries, Christmas and more. The impact on Shearer’s associates from their support of the Caring and Sharing Committee has been nothing but positive. Previously, the Company was honored with the Weatherhead 100 Award (Community Service Best Practices Category) and the NorthCoast 99 (Community Services Category), as well as the 2004 Pillar Award.

The Pillar Award is co-sponsored by Medical Mutual of Ohio, CVS/Pharmacy, ArcelorMittal, Family Heritage, Fifth Third Bank, Corporate College and Hughie’s Audio-Visual and Computer.
