Annually, Shearer’s Foods awards four $1,250 scholarships to dependents of Shearer’s associates. The company is proud to announce the following award recipients for the 2008-2009 academic year:
Kaleigh Bantum, a psychology major, is an undergraduate student in her third year at Ohio University in Athens. She is the daughter of Lori and John Bantum of Strasburg, Ohio. Lori has been with Shearer’s Foods since September of 2000 and is currently a machine operator on the day shift.
Brittany Hall is a freshman studying Art Education at Kent State University. She is the daughter of Randy Hall of New Philadelphia. A seven-year associate, Randy is Shearer’s Chief Waste Water Operator.
Kary Skelley is the daughter of Skip and Barb Skelley of Canton. She is a freshman majoring in Early Childhood Education at Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania. Skip, Branch Manager of Shearer’s in Massillon, is a twelve-year associate.
Eric Ubelhart is a sophomore at Kettering University in Flint, Michigan, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He is the son of Bruce and Carol Ubelhart of Orrville. Bruce, a seven-year associate, is Shearer’s Health, Safety and Security Director.
Shearer’s Scholarship Program is administered through the Cleveland Scholarship Foundation. Scholarships were awarded based on the applicant’s scholastic record, student community service, student essay’s and recommendations from individuals familiar with the applicant.
