Brewster, Ohio: The Second Annual Chip Chase 5K Run/Walk was held Friday evening, May 29, 2009 in Brewster, Ohio. This event is part of Shearer's Foods initiative to promote physical activity as part of their focus on health and wellness in the community.
This year, the event experienced record growth compared to many of the races organized through the Ohio Challenge Series, with an overall increase of 55% in participation of runners and walkers. There were 357 registered entries. The challenging course was a winding maze through the streets of Brewster that finished in Bimiler Park.
Prizes were distributed to the top three males and females racers overall as well as the top three in each age bracket. After the race, participants and their families were able to enjoy the Firemen's Festival in the Park, which includes rides, games, a live band and fireworks. This was a spectacular way to end the work week.
Proceeds raised from the Chip Chase benefit the Brewster Volunteer Fire Department to assist with the purchase of needed equipment. With the growth in participation, Shearer’s was able to raise $2,800 for the Fire Department, an increase of 65% from last year's donation.
