    Ryan Barkan Shearer's Assistant Controller Named President of the Young Alumni Council at Malone University

    Brewster, Ohio:  Ryan Barkan, Assistant Controller at Shearer's Foods, has been elected President of the Young Alumni Council at Malone University for the 2009-2010 school year. The mission of the Malone Young Alumni Council is to advocate for the needs of Malone's young alumni to the University as well as for the needs of the University to Malone's young alumni, to develop alumni leaders who aspire to stay connected to Malone, to encourage continued relationships established during the University experience and to provide opportunities for personal and professional growth.

    Mr. Barkan is a graduate of Malone University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in both Accounting/Business in 2001 and an MBA in 2003. While an undergraduate student, he served as Finance Director for the Student Senate in addition to his participation in Student Activities Committee (SAC), Intramurals (basketball and football), Accounting Club, Business Club, and Habitat for Humanity. He was named to Who's Who Among Students his senior year at Malone.

    Mr. Barkan came to Shearer's Foods from Ernst and Young, where he served as an auditor from 2001-2005. He has been a Certified Public Accountant since December of 2007 and also completed the certificate of management from Kent State University. He currently volunteers with Junior Achievement and is a member of both the Ohio Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs.

    Mr. Barkan is married to Elizabeth; the couple has two children - Logan, age 3, and Madison, age 1 - and reside in the Springhill Settlement of Massillon, Ohio, where he serves as a trustee. The family attends Wilmot United Methodist Church.
